Introduction

On 13 February 2025, UNITI Halal Centre (UHAC) successfully conducted a Halal Awareness In-House Training session with Moreth Sdn. Bhd., a leading nutraceutical contract manufacturer based in Subang Jaya, Selangor.

This collaboration marked another milestone in UHAC’s commitment to promoting Halal integrity and compliance in Malaysia’s food, supplement, and pharmaceutical manufacturing sectors.

Led by Puan Norhaizam, a certified and experienced Halal trainer, the training program delivered essential knowledge on Halal compliance, critical control points, and regulatory updates for frontline staff and operational personnel at Moreth Sdn. Bhd.

📌 About Moreth Sdn. Bhd.

Moreth Sdn. Bhd. is an established Halal-certified contract manufacturer specializing in nutraceutical products, including functional foods, herbal-based supplements, and traditional medicines.

Since its inception in 1999, the company has grown into a strategic private-label partner for regional and global brands.

They emphasize quality, innovation, and compliance, and their manufacturing operations meet stringent GMP and Halal standards.

Their active investment in Halal training and compliance practices showcases their long-term vision of serving Muslim consumers worldwide.

🎯 Objectives of the Halal Awareness Training

The Halal Awareness Training is a compulsory requirement for all companies intending to apply for or renew Halal certification from JAKIM.

According to JAKIM’s Manual Prosedur Pensijilan Halal Malaysia (MPPHM), training must be conducted at least once every three years and should involve all relevant staff members, especially those in:

  • Production operations
  • Procurement
  • Warehouse management
  • Quality control
  • Halal internal committee (Jawatan Kuasa Halal)

Key Objectives:

  • To raise awareness of Halal principles and the importance of Halal integrity in the supply chain.
  • To comply with MPPHM 2020 standards and Halal-related regulatory requirements.
  • To empower staff with practical knowledge on critical control points (CCPs) and non-Halal contamination risks.
  • To promote a workplace culture that aligns with Halal values and good manufacturing practices (GMP).
  • To ensure readiness for Halal audits and inspections.

Training Topics Covered

The Halal Awareness session was structured around JAKIM’s training guidelines, ensuring a holistic understanding of Halal and Toyyiban (pure and wholesome) principles across all organizational levels.

  • A mock audit walkthrough was conducted to help staff visualize real-world audit expectations.
  • UHAC introduced optional modules on Halal Crisis Management and Halal Supply Chain Transparency for future advanced training.

📝 Training Impact & Feedback

Following the session, UHAC distributed a post-training evaluation form. Key takeaways from participants include:

  • 92% of attendees rated the session as “very useful and informative.”

  • Teams were able to identify immediate action items to strengthen internal Halal SOPs.

🔒 Why Halal Training Matters (and Is Mandatory)

Under MPPHM 2020, Halal training is not just a best practice—it’s a legal requirement for any company seeking JAKIM Halal certification. Failure to conduct proper training can result in:

  • Rejection of certification application
  • Suspension of existing Halal certification
  • Compliance warnings from JAKIM auditors
  • Reputational risk and loss of consumer trust

In an industry as sensitive and consumer-focused as nutraceuticals, ensuring that all staff—from top management to production line workers—understand their role in Halal assurance is critical.
