Introduction

In today’s rapidly evolving global food industry, the importance of Halal assurance is more crucial than ever.

With growing consumer demand for Halal-certified products and increasing regulatory standards, companies must take a proactive stance to ensure internal compliance.

One shining example of such commitment is Otafuku Sauce Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., which recently conducted an intensive Halal Competency In-House Training with the UNITI Halal Centre (UHAC) on 19 June 2025.

This in-house program not only reflects Otafuku’s dedication to Halal integrity but also exemplifies how continuous training can strengthen internal Halal governance.

Otafuku Sauce MalaysiaAbout Otafuku Sauce Malaysia Sdn. Bhd.

Halal Competency Training: Strengthening Internal Halal Governance

📅 Date: 19 June 2025
🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Participants: 18 (Internal Halal Committee Members)
📍 Location: Otafuku Sauce Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., Klang
👥 Organised by: UNITI Halal Centre (UHAC)

Objective of the Training

The Halal Competency Training was designed to:

  1. Equip Internal Halal Committee members with up-to-date knowledge on Halal policies, procedures, and regulatory frameworks.
  2. Ensure compliance with the Malaysian Halal Certification Procedure Manual (MPPHM) 2020, which mandates Halal training at least once every three years.
  3. Enhance cross-departmental understanding of Halal Critical Control Points (HCCP) and documentation procedures.

The Importance of Halal Competency Training Under MPPHM 2020

Under the Manual Prosedur Pensijilan Halal Malaysia (MPPHM) 2020, companies with Halal certification must:

  • Appoint an Internal Halal Committee.
  • Conduct Halal Competency Training at least once every three (3) years.
  • Ensure that all committee members understand:
    • The Halal Assurance System (HAS),
    • Critical Control Points in production,
    • JAKIM documentation and audit procedures,
    • Handling of Halal & non-Halal risks,
    • Emergency and recall procedures.

Non-compliance could jeopardize the Halal certificate, making such training not just beneficial—but absolutely essential.
